Launchly is designed to help new websites get feedback on their launch. We're open to pretty much any kind of site at launchly but the focus is on web applications.
Please be aware that launchly is community powered so if you add a boring, static website on the free, basic plan it could very well get voted down enough to be removed from the site. Paid plans are never removed unless they violate the terms of service.
Anything vulgar or offensive or that could be construed as adult content is unacceptable for launching on launchly. We basically have a PG-13 rating.
Sure, as long as you participate in and contribute to the community first! The Basic launch plan is free but has a "cost" of 100 reputation (see below). This helps increase the amount of feedback all launches receive and keeps out the spammers!
We understand that you might need to get feedback before you let the entire world know about your site. That's why we've added the stealth mode option on the Plus and Premium plans.
Choose the stealth mode option when you launch your site and we'll make sure your site is hidden from search engines. Only users logged into launchly will be able to see your site.
Choosing this option will limit the Launch Exposure feature of launchly for obvious reasons. Your site will not be tweeted about, or dugg, or added to StumbleUpon, or show up in our RSS feed. Anonymous users will not be able to vote on your launch or provide feedback. You get the idea...
This will likely lead to a lower amount of feedback than if you didn't choose the stealth option. It will also reduce the amount of votes your launch receives and lower launchly's effectiveness as a marketing tool. We encourage you to only use this feature if you absolutely must remain in stealth!
Well that can happen sometimes and could be a sign that your site and/or idea needs some help. The Basic plan does not guarantee that you will get any feedback but at least you'll have gotten some exposure to our community!
If you tried the Basic plan and did not get any feedback but you NEED feedback, you are more than welcome to purchase one of the paid plans which guarantee feedback.
A user's reputation is a measure of their contribution and influence in the launchly community. It is earned automatically while you are logged into the site by providing feedback on launches, voting them up or down, and having your feedback voted up or down.
Here's a breakdown of the ways you can earn reputation right now (more ways to come later)...
Well, reputation is optional so if you're not into it, don't worry about it. Simply using launchly and interacting with the community doesn't require any reputation.
Reputation DOES have its benefits though! Some of those include...
Achievements are awards you can earn for completing various tasks. Earning an achievement will get your name on the front page and give you a bonus to your reputation.
Achievements are not implemented yet but are coming soon.
We encourage our launches to give a clear description of exactly what feedback they are looking for so hopefully it is obvious when you look at their launch. That being said, the launcher is responsible for providing that information and they are not always very... helpful in this area!
In general, sites that come to launchly for feedback are fairly early stage (alpha/beta). If you come across a site that has not really said what they area looking for feedback on, here are some ideas for things to comment on.
Remember, the site you are giving feedback to is somebody's baby. Treat them the way you would want to be treated. Flaming and rudeness are not OK on launchly.
Does that mean you can't speak your mind? Of course not! Your feedback would not be valuable if you were not honest so be sure to tell them what you really think.
That is the launch voting widget. It's an easy, non-committal way to give "light feedback" to a launch if you don't want to take the few minutes you would need to provide feedback.
The main up/down buttons are tied to the "overall" category and should be used to express your overall feelings towards the site. When you hover over the widget some additional categories (Design, Navigation, and Usefulness) are displayed for you to be more detailed on what areas of the site you liked or did not.
If you don't have time to give feedback, go ahead and vote on the launches. You can earn up to 4 reputation per launch since there are 4 categories to cast a vote in. Even if you DO leave feedback you will probably want to vote on the site as well to get those 4 bonus reputation points!
We do not ask you anything more than is strictly necessary when you are signing up so if you want to fill in your profile, here's how. While you are logged in you can click the "Your Profile" link at the top of any page to check out your profile. On your profile page you can click the "Edit Profile" button to change your profile.
For a couple of reasons.
We tried to make the avatar image as easy as possible by using what you already have. If you signed up with a third-party account like Twitter or Facebook and have a profile image with them, we will use it automatically.
If the account you signed up with does not have a profile image, we will try to use the Gravatar associated with your email address. If you don't have a Gravatar, signing up for one is easy and it works on many other websites besides Launchly!
