YouSTFU! No this is not foul language, just the name of a site you should check out. YouSTFU.com is all about users sharing stories, voting, discussing and approaching issues and topics that would cause you to shout "STFU!"
YouSTFU is not another complex and time-consuming way to connect with others; in fact, it strongly discourages people getting “together” and prefers its visitors to be friendless, recluse and otherwise normal. Site features include posting/voting/commenting on stories, adding pictures and video, sending STFU egreeting cards, creating custom STFU postcards, and shopping for STFU merchandise. It’s also perfect for lazy multitaskers because users can login in with Facebook credentials, and lurkers actually don’t have to log in at all.
"Where were you Glenn Beck robots when Bush & Co. pissed all over the Constitution and our Civil Liberties? NOTHING BUT SILENCE so STFU" - says one of the posters.
Timely and relevant, YouSTFU can be located at www.YouSTFU.com and brings together people and their imaginary friends in a snarky kind of way. All future visitors should be advised that YouSTFU shamelessly pushes their wares, including a Mug with any STFU story on it. It might not be a great idea to go to the site on payday after consuming the first six-pack.
1) Menu atop Easy to Navigate? Any changes needed with CSS such as OnRollover color?
2) Overall Color scheme work?
3) I figured logo is most familiar - Being that this site falls into the humor category, would be best to keep logo as is to fit within theme of site? Or make it unique?
4) On first glance, do you understand concept of site?
5) Should I add icons to 'voting' options?
6) See any potential? Did I waste my time all summer creating this site or should I continue with promotion?
7) Any other features you'd like to see?
Initial thoughts: YouSTFU is not a site for me.
I found your site very easy to use. Colors are fine. Navigation is easy. Your site if fast. It is very apparent what your site is about. Some of the "stories" made me laugh, most were just so-so. I got bored very quickly with every story ending with STFU. (I know... it is required per your post page.)
Don't worry, I'm not in your target demographics.
I loved your mug integration!
Your logo is a bit derivative. I would think about why it needs to look just like you Tube.
The future: You should add some form of t-shirt integration similar to your mugs. I don't buy cups with quotes, but I do buy shirts.
Good luck!
In my opinion the menu at the top needs just a bit of work, it looks like it's just floating in space right now.
The overall color scheme seems fine.
I agree with Steven on the logo comment. I think you need something a bit more unique.
At first glance I was actually quite confused by the concept of the site. I understand the landing page is dynamic but when I looked the first thing I saw was what looked like a "story" with a headline that read "Lady Gaga STFU Joker Face!" Uhm... what? I know who Lady Gaga is, I Know what STFU means, and I know who the Joker is but when you put all that together I have no clue what I'm reading.
At this point I would have left your site but instead I clicked through on that first story. I found no additional information there though which made me wonder why it was even clickable. What I thought was a headline turned out to be the whole "story" I guess. There was a place to comment but I'm not sure what there was to comment...
Oh wait, there's an image on this one which I guess is the main point of this particular item. It wasn't obvious to me when I first looked at it though... Maybe the actual image should be shown when you click through rather than remaining hidden in a rollover?
Something else I noticed is your Submit page seems to indicate stories should end in STFU but a lot of your recent stories don't. I think you should enforce that more because the consistency is good.
Your voting definitely needs some sort of icons or at least be consistent textually with other sites. It took me quite some searching to figure out that "Good Stuff" and "GTFO" were your +/- voting links. At first I thought they were tags or categories or something.
When I went to your "Top Stories" page I finally got a better feeling for what the site should be about. People like to rant and this could be a descent place for them to do so but it needs some work. Right now there is too much crap on the main page to draw people in! You may want/need to consider making the main sorting more like Digg and others where the default is recently popular stories rather than just the latest ones. That should help keep your main page a bit more relevant/interesting for new users.
As for potential, the site's not for me. I think you have some interesting monetization strategies like the mugs and I think Steven had a good idea w/the shirts. One thing I wonder is if people will have a problem w/your ToS granting you unlimited rights to use their STFUs for profit via your merchandise.
I'd also mention that I think Twitter can be used very well as a ranting tool which means you would face stiff competition there. I know I use Twitter for that from time to time.
Here's an idea. Have you thought about just combing the public Twitter stream for negative sentiment "rants" and using those as your content? Your value add would then be people voting on the Twitter rants. One problem with this though would be your ability to create merchandise w/their tweets since they would belong to the user and/or Twitter.
Appreciate the feedback and critique!
BTW - I do have a category of Tweets which updates real time all STFU's thanks to Twitter - It's fascinating to see how many STFU's are mentioned in a day!

Hey neat on the Twitter feed of STFUs. I still think you should consider making that your primary means of entry and work to get really good ones on the landing page.
Also just a question, did you have problems logging into your account? Just curious since you posted anonymously. If you had problems please don't hesitate to use the contact form and I'll get you fixed right up.
Hey Bri -
Yeah, per our recent email correspondence, still not able to sign in via Twitter (using firefox or chrome)- Thoughts?
Meanwhile - Regarding STFU's via Twitter - What do you think works better?
1) Show ONLY top random STFU recent tweet entry (thus main page will include 1 story from twitter at top and lot of stories from other categories but twitter -- or --
2) "move" 1 random stfu twitter story to main page near real time, thus having more than 1 twitter story on main page.
Thanks
Your site is not obvious to me. Even after reading your full length description. Are you selling stuff or are you providing a way for people to bitch? I don't understand it - hope this helps somewhat. You need to clear the message for people like me, if I'm your targeted audience that is.
i like it
