Have a kid (or two) who wants email? Afraid of exposing them to spam or scammers? Looking for an easy to use solution that allows you to protect them while allowing them to email friends and family?
At Kimaso.com, we aim to solve that problem by allowing you to control who emails your child and who your child emails. Our solution aims at being easy-to-use, giving you control and allowing your child to email friends and family that you approve.
Kimaso.com is currently free during the beta, but after the beta the cost will be $20 a year for accounts with names (e.g., john@kimaso.com) and $10 a year for accounts with numbers (e.g., john01@kimaso.com).
We're looking for feedback on our pricing, if you could fill out our survey.(http://kimaso.limequery.com/index.php?sid=59533&newtest=Y&lang=en)
Is our sites' purpose clear?
Is our navigation and layout clear?
Does our pricing represent a good value?
Any other feedback.
Thanks for the feedback, I'm working on finding a better color that's less "blinding".
I'm working working on a new homepage (http://kimaso.com/new_homepage/), does itlook better to you?
I reworded the pricing and put on the homepage and learn more page.
"Kimaso.com is currently free during the beta, but after the beta more popular addresses -- those without a number, such as john@kimaso.com -- cost $20/year and regular addresses -- those with a number, such as john01@kimaso.com -- will cost $10/year."
Do you think this is clearer? Or do you think just charging $20/year would be clearer?
I honestly do not understand why you are differentiating emails based on whether there are numbers or not... My normal email has numbers in it. Why would I get a discount? What's so special about numbers in an email address?
I like the new homepage a LOT more than the old one (except the background again of course). I can find the register and learn more links a lot more easily than before, good job. I'm not sure why you have Blog/FAQ/Privacy at the top of the homepage when they are repeated (except for blog?) in the footer.
Ouch...my eyes hurt...totally agree with Brian here. If you're looking for a kid friendly color, try something more pastel - like twitter?
I'm really interested to find out why you offer a discount for email address with a number in it? I'd say you go one way or another...$10 or $20...preferably $20. BTW - this is a really cheap service you are providing. Are you sure $20 is fair? I mean, how much work do you have to do in the backend to support each email address? Is it automatic or do you have to do stuff? You might want to start out higher and lower your cost as you get more people...it'll be VERY difficult to go the other way around.
Thanks for listening to Brian's constructive criticism and actually implementing a few of the ideas! Don't forget to re-launch your site when you have another iteration to be reviewed. I'm looking forward to this as I think it's a great concept...protecting kids from malicious individuals is a huge concern and appreciate that people like you are doing something about it!
I like the color background more as well, however I still think its kind of strong. It is still difficult to read the text on the page...and if you're providing an e-mail service (even to kids) it needs to be as readab le as possible. Maybe a more subdued green.
I understand your pricing model, but I agree with Brian on the reasoning behind it. Basically, you want to charge more for what you would dictate as 'premier' names. Like bob@kimaso.com or tim@kimaso.com. I find it kind of confusing as well, but can't think of a better way to achieve what you're going for off hand.
Hope that helps!
I understand what you're saying, I think, but still don't get what difference does it make from kimaso's point of view. I mean, a more creative and original email address gets rewarded for being creative and timely in coming up with their email address so they're rewarded through Kimaso? I would be swayed to thinking this might work if Kimaso had an easier job to handle those premier email addresses...but I don't think they do, or do they? Don't you (Kimaso) have to do the same exact thing for either email address?
Keep it simple and avoid confusion/irritation from your users...go with the $20 per year, which I personally think it's a fair price.
Ok, I understand that the audience is children but I still think you should use a less... blinding... background color.
In general, the layout is pretty confusing, at least on the main page. It looks, unfortunately, amateur. The navigation is cluttered and confused on the main page. You have much of the same navigation both on the right side of the box and at the bottom/footer and they basically run together there.
I see no obvious way to even sign up for an account on your main page. I see a way to sign in with username/password but I don't see a register link anywhere. Ah ok, there's one on the Learn More page. You shouldn't make me learn more to register for an account. Oh and I just noticed where you hid it on the main page... right in the middle of your other text links. That should really be a major link/button so it is easier to find.
Your pricing is anything but clear because you say "When we charge for accounts the it will cost $20 unless your address contains a number then it will cost $10." What does that even mean??? If your email address contains a number then you get a discount??? Huh? Also, I had to go to the FAQ to even find out that much. You make no mention of pricing anywhere else that I could find.
