lolligift is the fun, affordable and secure way for friends to pool their money and buy a dream gift for a special occasion.
Shopping for a gift can be fun, but when you have limited time or budget, it can quickly become a chore!
With lolligift your options are limitless. Club together with friends to buy that digital camera, new pair of shoes or dream vacation you know your friend will always remember and appreciate. And still save money!
Here’s how it works: You as the organizer tells us about the special occasion and whom you’re collecting for. Think of a gift idea, set the total amount you’re collecting and a suggested amount each person should contribute to reach that goal. Don’t worry if your math is bad, we have a fancy calculator ☺
lolligift makes inviting people a breeze by allowing you to add people from your address book (Hotmail, Gmail, Yahoo). Each person will receive a customized email from you explaining lolligift and asking them whether they’d like to pitch in (All major credit cards and PayPal accepted). A link is included to a ‘Gift Pool’ page that will be the center of activity until you’ve raised the total amount.
From the Gift Pool you can:
* See who the lucky recipient is, check out the planned gift and see how much you’re raising
* View comments and send messages to the group
* Make a contribution and see how much is left to raise
* Check out who’s been invited and whether they’ve contributed
lolligift offers the organizer a variety of ways to get the cash into their hands to suit any timeframe. We will mail a check for free (US Domestic), or offer expedited shipping if you need the funds sooner. If you’re a PayPal user we can even deposit straight into your account.
You’ll receive a link to the e-card with a message from all the contributors. You can send or print it for your friend when you surprise them with the gift they never would have expected!
Would you use this site for a gifting occasion?
Do you understand what the site does?
Are there any additional features you'd like to see?
First off, nice looking site. Organized and uncluttered = GREAT!
I sent me a reminder and the subject was "Michelle's 30th bday", on the confirmation screen, the apostrophe was escaped with the \ - you should try to hide that. I like the "help" info when I'm adding an event..it's clearly separated from the main content.
I saw the fee breakdown but wasn't sure if you were charging that or if that's just a paypal thing. You have "More details available at our FAQ." but no link to your FAQ, I'd like to see FAQ be a link. Looking at the help boxes a lil' more, they don't look to fit the section they are grouped with - specifically the 'Never be out-of-pocket with Lolligift' section looks too long.
Why do you require the recipient's email address? I don't feel safe nor have the right to provide that information to you. I rather just provide my info.
I like the "How Many People Will Contribute?" box but it didn't grab my attention when the number changed, perhaps you need something a bit more obvious, or maybe right under the $ and contribution # you could put how many people you'll need to reach that number instead off to the right of the screen.
When I clicked on "Edit the card" I was taken to another screen and didn't know how to get back to the previous screen, had to click the back button, I'd like to see my previous menu items stick. Actually, all of the menu items take me to another screen and I figured out that clicking on the title takes me back to the previous screen. Perhaps rename that to "Take me back to [event name goes here]" so it's obvious how they can get back there.
I was a bit confused about the fees, so I looked around and think I found the information I was looking for under the FAQs, however, I shouldn't have to dig around to find this. You should have that upfront and be clear about it. Also, I was still confused as to what happens if the entire money wasn't collected for an event...didn't sound like you'd be paying that out regardless if they met the quota or not...I would think you'd pay it out, but wasn't sure.
All in all, great concept and site. I will definitely make use of this site for my own personal use.
I just checked the email you send out to request contribution, and I rather see you use the recipient's full name instead of their email address.
Also, the info looks cramped on the email...perhaps space it out and put a lil' more information about the event...like "I'm organizing a gift pool for [name of recipient] in honor of their [name of event]. I'll be responsible for getting the gift, just need your monetary contribution" something like that...
I really like the concept of this site. The premise is simple, the site seems easy to use, and I think it would serve a great purpose.
I do have some suggestions from a visual standpoint though. The logo is huge in the upper left hand corner, which lends to a lot of white space at the top. Could that perhaps be bundled into the blue area in the rotating pictures? I also feel that the three blue boxes on the bottom are bigger than they need to be. It's not an issue on my 1920x1200 monitor, but once I flip to my laptop I need to scroll. I think that for the info you have, you could potentially shrink up the data while maintaining the uncluttered feel.
I'm not sure I would use this site for a gifting occasion however. There are a lot of social technologies out there that help with that already (although they don't mean to) - such as facebook. With facebook I can just post on other people's walls suggestions or ideas for a gift. So...my suggestion would be integration with these social services, like facebook. I think then, I would use the application for sure.
Good site - great idea.
Home page is very nice and clean. I'm not sure if the images you have rotating really do much to convey anything about your idea but the 1, 2, 3 on the left side certainly is clear and looks good.
I was a bit underwhelmed when I clicked the learn more link. Something about the centered "What is lolligift" followed by block text followed by a semi-centered list just didn't sit right with me. I think I would also like to see a different color for the section headers in the feature tour (e.g. Save Your Money, Stop The Spam!, etc.). More images would also help create more visual interest on the tour pages.
Perhaps a video tour would go a long way towards explaining the idea.
Overall it seems like a very interesting idea that I would think people could make use of. You will have to convince them to trust you with holding their money in your pool and that you will actually give it back to them and be timely about it. Timing could be an issue if people wait too long to close their pool and the gift deadline is running too close. They can use PayPal but if they don't have it and need to wait for a check they could be left footing the bill for the gift and then basically being reimbursed by lolligift.
Oh yah... last thing. What in the world is up with that name? Lolligift? I mean it sticks out I guess which is good but it really has nothing to do with what you do (other than the gift part).
